The Walking Dead Season 4 is now filming in Georgia, and on-set photos of an injured Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) are shuffling around the Internet.

A Twitter account called TWD Addiction shared some images from the Facebook page Dead Talk: “Season 4 Pics #TWD #TheWalkingDead #TheWalkingDeadFamily #WalkingDead Look very closely at Rick's hand.”

The photo, above, shows Rick with bandages around his right hand. There are more photos like it here, showing the injured Rick with … is that Carol (Melissa McBride)? Maybe they are out on a supply run. He probably got hurt in a “normal” way — a fight with another human at the prison or something — but since this is Rick and TWD, some fans are wondering if this hand injury is related to his comic book storyline.

SPOILER ALERT

In the comics, The Governor chops off Rick’s hand. Writer Robert Kirkman has said he regrets that choice, so it’s probably not going to happen on the AMC show. At the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con, Kirkman said, "One thing I'm adamant about is I don't think that we should cut Rick's hand off [on television]." He added, "When I'm writing a comic book, I don't think about what I'm doing. I go, 'Oh, it'd be pretty cool if they cut his hand off right now. That'd be pretty shocking, right?'. Then I do it, and five issues later, I write 'Rick opens a can of beans' and then I look at the script and think 'He can't do that now'. I didn't even think that through."

But that doesn’t mean Rick will, or should, emerge from this battle unscathed. This could just be a minor injury, but Rick is not immune from the dangers of the zombie apocalypse. Kirkman has said that TV Rick could die at any time, which sounds worse than just losing a hand, but maybe it’s easier to write about.
