The Walking Dead TV show has only been airing for three years, but the comic book series just turned ten.

TWD was a big deal at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con and the same will be true at the 2013 fest, which runs from July 17-21. To celebrate the 10th anniversary, writer/TV exec producer Robert Kirkman's Image Comics imprint Skybound is partnering with digital media and content marketing group Future US for a bunch of activities around The Walking Dead universe.

According to a release shared by Daily Dead, the Future US booth will kick off July 17 with the debut of the Veloster Zombie Survival Machine, a custom 2013 Hyundai Veloster. A unique configurator app called WalkingDeadChopShop.com will allow fans to design their own custom digital zombie survival machine on the show floor. The submitted designs will be entered into a contest, with the winning design constructed and unveiled at New York Comic-Con in October 2013.

“I had so much fun designing last year’s Zombie Survival Machine that I wanted to invite fans of The Walking Dead to share that experience and see their vision come to life at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con,” Kirkman said in the release. “It’s hard to believe the growth and expansion The Walking Dead has undergone since I began writing the comic 10 years ago. This entire event is a thank you to fans of The Walking Dead universe.”

The Comic-Con booth will also feature The Walking Dead video game, zombie costume contests, celebrity appearances, a zombie makeup station, and social media contests. The L.A. Times says The Walking Dead Escape is also returning to San Diego’s Petco Park for Comic-Con, pitting “survivors” against “walkers” in an obstacle course.

“It has been amazing to see the reception for Robert Kirkman’s vision brought to life at last year’s Comic-Con, and we’re very excited to expand on that experience for 2013,” said Rachelle Considine, president, Future US. “With exclusive videos, contests and surprises, The Walking Dead experience will live far beyond Comic-Con.”

Comic-Con International's official 2013 Program Schedule will appear on the official site about two weeks before the show. That's pretty soon (probably the first week of July), so head here for updates, in case you are able to go to the San Diego event, or just stay tuned for any cool Walking Dead news that emerges from the event!

UPDATE: According to The Hollywood Reporter, TWD's July 19 panel will include these lovely people: new showrunner Scott Gimple; executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, Robert Kirkman, Dave Alpert and Greg Nicotero; and stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, David Morrissey, Chad Coleman and Scott Wilson. It will be moderated by The Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick.
