The Walking Dead Season 4 doesn’t premiere until October 13, but thanks to some spoiler photos and our knowledge of the comics, we know that one of Rick Grimes’ hands may not make it through, a la Hershel’s leg.

In the comics, Rick loses his right hand after The Governor chops it off (ouch), but it remains to be seen if on-screen Rick will be down a hand as well. At this point, evidence suggests it could go either way.

On one hand (see what we did there?) comic book creator Robert Kirkman has said that having Rick lose a hand was one of his biggest regrets since it vastly limits the character. Kirkman has also made it clear that he’s totally open to veering away from the storylines in the comic books, even if new showrunner Scott Gimple would rather stay more true to the original story.

However, there is also unconfirmed photographic evidence that Rick’s hand, while seemingly intact, may not get by entirely unscathed. Earlier this summer several photographs of Rick’s portrayor, Andrew Lincoln, filming in Atlanta surfaced. Closer inspection of the apparent on-set pictures reveals that there is indeed a bandage of some sort around Andrew’s right hand.

Do you think Rick will lose a hand, or will he get by sans injury this season?
