Season 4 of The Walking Dead is well underway and we have yet to see The Governor (David Morrissey). He's rumored to be getting two standalone episodes this season, but we've taken the liberty of compiling three hopes for TWD's big bad. Check 'em out below!
1. A “Satisfying” Story
The Governor is coming back at some point this season, and in addition to whatever else he does, he’ll have two flashback episodes explaining what he’s been up to since the end of Season 3. Showrunner Scott Gimple told Entertainment Weekly The Gov’s return will be in “service to an incredibly satisfying story.” We hope so! We were told the Season 3 finale would bring a satisfying ending to this chapter of Rick’s story — and then The Governor massacred a bunch of people and ran away. That wasn’t too satisfying.
2. Justice (or at Least Safety) For Michonne
Michonne is going to be obsessed with tracking down The Governor, which may just lead to trouble. Michonne wants vengeance for Andrea, and there are plenty of people in the prison with legit beefs against the guy, but let’s hope invoking his spirit doesn’t just make everything worse. The last thing we want is for The Gov to torture more of our group. It may be best to just leave him alone, but since that’s not gonna happen, we just hope Michonne doesn’t end up the brunt of his wrath. She killed his (already dead) daughter and stabbed him in the eye. Clearly he hates her as much as she hates him.
Some people may want The Governor to continue on for another season, but it seems like if he’s going to come back it should to be for a big Western-style face-off with Team Prison. Andrew Lincoln (Rick) told TV Guide, “We're going to meet again. And there will be blood, as they say.” If blood is shed, we hope it’s The Gov’s blood. But since he’s been (in Big Lebowski parlance) a worthy effing adversary, give him a worthy end — something memorably gruesome.
What do you hope for The Governor in Season 4?
