Don’t get us wrong, we love the prison crew just as much as the next guy or gal, but we have a feeling we’re going to spend much of The Walking Dead Season 4 clamoring for any hint of The Governor’s (David Morrissey) epic return.
So far we know that TWD’s resident Big Bad (ya know, aside from the walkers) will return when we “least expect it” but we may see him sooner than initially anticipated, with rumors swirling that he may ahow his face at the end of Episode 5: "Internment". It's also been reported that The Gov. and will likely have two stand-alone episodes later this season at least partially told in flashback form. We know we’re only a few episodes into Season 4, but is it possible that some of the groundwork has already been laid for the Gov’s highly-anticipated comeback?
Though comic book creator Robert Kirkman wouldn’t clarify exactly when The Governor returns, he did offer this intriguing tidbit during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
“He’s definitely going to appear at some point this season," Robert revealed. "It’s possible there are elements of his return that have already been set up in some ways you might not have noticed. But when he returns it will be at a time when you least expect it.”
We already knew The Gov’s return would be a surprise, but since Robert said certain elements of his homecoming may have already being planted, we’re going to go over the first few eps with a fine-tooth comb to see if we can’t find any hints that he’s lurking somewhere or his presence is otherwise in the prison. After all, we’ve already speculated that Bob Stookey could be loyal to the former Woodbury leader.
Speaking of Woodbury, Robert also noted that we haven’t seen the last of that formerly idyllic community. When asked if it was a ghost town he replied, “That will be dealt with in an upcoming episode.”
We think having The Governor reside in the town that he formerly ruled is a bit obvious, but with that crazy dude you never know!
