Carl, what have you done now? The Walking Dead Season 4 just started, but we’re already hearing teasers about the mid-season finale (Episode 8), which will air on December 1, and the back-half premiere (Episode 9), which won’t show up until some unnamed date in February 2014.

TVLine shared a spoiler on that 2014 mid-season premiere. According to Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes), it’s a big showcase for Chandler RiggsCarl Grimes. “[Carl] does something this season…. Man,” Andy teased, laughing. “Episode 9 is his episode. It’s so cool.”

Carl does something cool?! Carl doing something crazy/dangerous/scary, that makes more sense. At the very least, this tells us Carl survives into Episode 9. Just saying — you may want to pay attention to those details, since we know people will be leaving us left and right.

Robert Kirkman, who wrote the comic books and executive produces the AMC show, wrote Episode 9, and a while back he told AMC, “Episode 9 will probably be the episode that’s closest to a direct adaptation from the comic book aside from the premiere episode. It’s been a lot of fun for me working on them because I’m basically just rewriting something I’ve already written, which means I get to go back in and go, ‘Woah, what’d you do there? Let’s fix that.’”

So perhaps Carl does something tied to the comics? Rack your brains, comic readers — something with the bandits who tried to attack Carl? Or the Hunters, maybe? Would we have gotten that far by Episode 9? If not, maybe Carl is just written some badass material where he saves people or kills a walker in a funky new way. Total guesses, but it’s something to tuck into the back of your mind.
