Update: The Governor (David Morrissey) used Hershel and Michonne and as a way to gain entrance into the prison, telling Rick and his team that they would both be killed unless the prison was vacated. The Governor kept them both a live at first, but decapitated Hershel with Michonne's katana when he didn't get his way. We miss you already, old man.
The Governor has reason to hate Michonne (she killed walker Penny last season) and we think he he could use her or Hershel as a way to gain entrance into the prison, much like he did with Tyreese's character in the comics. Will The Gov. kill Michonne in Season 4, Episode 8: "Too Far Gone"? We'll have to wait and see!
Rumors of Hershel Greene’s (Scott Wilson) death have been greatly exaggerated for a couple of years now. We didn’t think he’d make it through The Walking Dead Season 3, never mind find a new leg (!) sometime between Season 3 and Season 4. But not only is he surprisingly still with us, Scott told Rolling Stone he wasn’t even supposed to survive Season 2.
“I was told at one point in the first season I was here they were going to kill me off,” Scott told the magazine. “They gave me my notice, my death certificate. I said ‘It's been fun.’ [Former showrunner] Glen Mazzara said, ‘No, you don't understand. I don't want to do it.’ I said, ‘You'll get over it. I didn't expect to live forever. I will remain a fan of the show after I'm no longer on it.’ And he said, ‘Well I'm not sure which episode it'll be, it'll either be 11 or 12.’ Eleven comes, I'm alive. Twelve comes, I'm alive. Thirteen comes, I'm alive. So, he says, ‘Look at you, you're still alive.’ I said, ‘Yeah. I'm talking to my savior.’"
He has a great attitude about the whole thing! However, his savior may be calling him home this season. Yeah, it’s been guessed before, but the rumors have been revived that Hershel dies, maybe even before the mid-season finale (Episode 8) in December. It’s possible we’ll see the last of Scott’s farmer/veterinarian who is both father to Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Beth (Emily Kinney) and conscience to the group, especially Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln). He's willingly exposed himself to this deadly flu, and as an older gentleman he's probably not as able to fight off the sickness as well as some of his younger counterparts like Glenn and Sasha. In the promo for this Sunday's installment, Episode 5, we even see him tending to Dr.S, who is pretty much at death's door. It's not looking good for either of them.
Hershel’s an old fella with only one full leg, and we wouldn’t be too surprised to see him die — either of this new sickness or in some other way the zombie apocalypse offs people. But his death would be a huge loss. Still, let’s not mourn him quite yet. This show loves to mess with our expectations, and it’s possible Hershel will be with us for a long time to come.
Do you think Hershel will survive through Season 4?
