We’re already preparing ourselves for the special kind of frustration that comes after The Walking Dead mid-season finale. Season 4’s Episode 8 will air on December 1 and then … nothing … until February 2014. It’s cruel.

At least Episode 8 is sounding pretty cool so far, based on the teases we’ve seen. Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) recently shared another exciting tease with Yahoo: "The mid-season finale is the biggest thing we've attempted, I think, so far in our show. I think the crew, and Ernest Dickerson, who directed it, everybody busted their guts to do that episode. Darrell Pritchett, who does the special effects — he's the man with the dynamite, was the busiest man I've ever seen. It was thrilling. Just thrilling. It just felt like an incredibly exciting episode. And then in the [final eight of the season], it's like we're spinning out into orbit, and it's a completely new show. It's really, really exciting."

Awesome! Our eyebrows shot up a bit at the mention of dynamite. We were already wondering if the mid-season finale might include a big moment for The Governor (David Morrissey) like attacking the prison — perhaps with a tank, ala the comic book. Explosions? Mayhem? Maybe? Maybe not. But Andy’s note about the back half of the season “spinning out” like a completely new show makes us wonder if we will indeed be leaving the prison for good, heading out on the road for new places. Maybe these places with these people.

Or not! Just spitballing. We’ll see what happens, but at least we can look forward to “an incredibly exciting episode” before there’s nothing to watch for months.

The Walking Dead Season 4 airs on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
