Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) may have begun Season 4 in an uncharacteristically zen state with his vegetable garden and adorable bevy of now deceased piglets, but by the end of The Walking Dead Season 4, Episode 2: “Infected”, we began to see signs of The Ricktator emerging once again.

As a deadly flu ravaged the prison and transformed once healthy residents into walkers within the group’s previously safe home, Rick did whatever he had to do to protect his people. For starters, the former leader made use of his gun again and even reluctantly gave his son, Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) his own weapon back.

A new photo from Season 4, Episode 3: “Isolation” shows a disheveled Rick with a cut on the side of his face. Was he injured fighting a walker? Another resident? The traitor that seems to have infiltrated the prison?

We don’t know much about Rick’s injury at this point, but at the very end of the promo for Episode 3 the father of two screams “let go of me” as Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) holds him back.

Could Rick’s emotional outburst be related to Baby Judith in some way? Maybe Rick’s face was cut as Daryl was trying to hold him back from something or someone. We’re just speculating at this point, but be sure to share your own theories about Rick’s injured face below!

The Walking Dead Season 4, Episode 3, “Isolation” airs on Sunday, October 27 at 9 p.m. ET.
