In another life, the Dixon brothers would still be together in The Walking Dead. If only this or that or this other thing had happened, or if Merle Dixon (Michael Rooker) hadn't made one of any number of questionable decisions. Instead, he's the one that got away and Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) is facing Season 4 prison life without his big bro.

Michael Rooker talked to Worcester Magazine about the decision to kill off Merle toward the end of Season 3. "I think they made a mistake, but what can you do? I just said, 'Thank you for the opportunity,'" he said. "I would rather continue working on the show. We had a good time doing it. There was more to the character, but how long can you keep me on the show and not have me in scenes with my brother?"

That is one of the lingering frustrations — to have such amazing actors in Michael and Norman and keep them apart for three seasons, only for them to share such little screen time when they're finally reunited. What a missed opportunity.

Not that Michael is a bitter betty about the whole thing. "Merle Dixon was an awesome role," he told the magazine. "It is one of my favorite roles. I got the chance to build this character. They gave me the opportunity to make it work. His character was brilliantly written and brilliantly re-written."

If only they could re-write him once more to give him more time with his baby brother. (Prequel, please?) We miss you, Merle!
