TWD is loosely based on the comic books written by executive producer Robert Kirkman; in the books, Rosita, Eugene, and Abraham cross paths with our now Team Prison group after The Governor’s (David Morrissey) big final attack on the prison. Rick Grimes’ (Andrew Lincoln) group hits the road with them to try and reach Washington, D.C. because Eugene says he's a scientist who knows the cause of the outbreak.
"We're going to tell a version of the Eugene, Abraham, and Rosita comic stories, that's what we do," showrunner Scott Gimple told The Hollywood Reporter.
When will we see them?
Eagle-eyed fans got a hint back in July, when a casting call was issued for these three “recurring roles”:
• John Tyler — Early 30s, vulgar with rough edges but wise.
• Wayne Kesey — Early 30s. Very smart and an experienced liar.
• Jordana Barraza — Late 20s tough hispanic and beautiful. Shamed about her past.
The casting calls have mostly been using code names, and some fans recognized the character descriptions to be pretty close matches for Abraham, Eugene, and Rosita. That casting call was for Episode 10, which will air Sunday, February 16. The New York Post recently updated that the characters from the comics will be arriving at the end of Episode 10.
Robert Kirkman previously talked to Entertainment Weekly about how the TV version of Abraham, Eugene, and Rosita will enter the story. "I can say that their introduction will be somewhat similar to how they were introduced in the comic, which I think is a very cool thing,” he said. “I’m always pushing for big changes between the comic and the show, but when there is a good, natural process to adapt things directly, we do that from time to time to keep people guessing, so we will see a bit of that in their introduction."
They will arrive with a "mission," which may be the same as in the comics — to head to D.C. for answers on the walker plague. Or maybe they'll be tied to that "sanctuary" tease on the radio. Either way, it’ll be fun to see the TV versions of Abraham, Rosita and Eugene, in action. Hopefully adding them to the group doesn’t mean we have to lose more of the OGs!
