We’ve been seeing some mixed reactions out there to the inevitable return of The Governor (David Morrissey).

His one-eyed visage flashed on screens at the end of Season 4, Episode 5, and we know Episode 6, “Live Bait” (November 17) is going to be centered around his character. Earlier in the season, it was teased that The Gov. would have two “standalone” episodes with flashback elements. That seems to be what we’re facing now in Episode 6 and Episode 7.

How do you feel about The Gov.’s return? On one hand, Team Prison has unfinished business with the guy. You can’t just let him fade into the mist and expect it’s over. He is responsible for the deaths of Andrea, Merle, Milton, Axel, and many others. Michonne (Danai Gurira) wanted revenge, and Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) was also looking for him up until recently. Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan) can’t be fond of the guy either, and The Gov. has to view Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) as his chief rival, since the Woodbury people he didn’t kill went to the prison for protection under the former Ricktator’s umbrella.

There are many possibilities for what will happen from here — including the idea that The Gov. will be revealed to have connections inside the prison (Bob Stookey?) or maybe he meets new people outside the prison and forms a group to take the place for their own. Maybe he even runs into Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride), who is now also out on the road.

Then again, The Gov.’s return means a focus on him instead of our beloved Team Prison group, including flashbacks to the time period between Season 3 and Season 4, with a look at Woodbury burning and other stuff that goes back in time instead of moving the story forward. It was like the Woodbury scenes in Season 3 that, for some fans, took away from the real action at the prison.

So where do you stand on The Gov.’s return? Vote below!

The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
