When we first heard that The Governor (David Morrissey) was going to have two standalone episodes all to himself as part of The Walking Dead Season 4, we’ll admit that we were a bit worried. Two whole hours — one eighth of the entire season — with no Daryl Dixon, (Norman Reedus) Rick Grimes, (Andrew Lincoln) or anyone else from Team Prison for that matter? Unthinkable!

But as The Governor’s epic return neared, Andrew Lincoln helped get us on board with two episodes devoted entirely to his on-screen nemesis. In an interview that ran in Atlanta Magazine back in October Andy said, “My job is to serve my character in the scripts that I’m given. I just read two scripts, both of which I’m not in. And I think they’re the greatest episodes we’ve ever had. There’s a depth to it. Character pushes story this season a lot more. We’ve got a very good combination of great storytelling and action sequences.”

With a glowing review like that from Mr. Lincoln himself we were slowly getting on board with The Gov.’s solo episodes, but how did the first of the two standalone installments fair with viewers? We’re TWD fans really ready to watch a whole hour of the one-eyed psycho?

Apparently they were! According to TVBytheNumbers, the November 17th episode of TWD — “Live Bait” —was the most-watched cable show of the night with over 12 million viewers. The AMC drama also earned a 6.0 rating in the adults 18-49 demo, which was down two tenths from Season 4, Episode 5: ”Internment”, which was watched by some 12.2 million viewers.

The Governor is back with the conclusion of his solo journey this Sunday, November 24, for Season 4: Episode 7: “Dead Weight”. In this ep, The Gov. reluctantly teams up with Martinez in an effort to keep his new “family” — Lilly, Tara, and Meghan Chalmers — safe.

We’re hoping that in Episode 8, the mid-season finale, we finally get that long-awaited standoff between The Governor and Team Prison!
