The Governor (David Morrissey) can play as many chess games with Meghan as he wants, but we still know that beneath his black eyepatch lies a man who is capable of massacring his own people in cold blood. The Gov. may be trying to reinvent himself as “Brian”, but since he crossed paths with one of his own lackeys, Martinez, at the end of The Walking Dead Season 4, Episode 6: “Live Bait”, we’re not sure how long his newfound sense of family and belonging will last before the crazy switch gets flipped. Again.

David Morrissey has acknowledged that his on-screen counterpart has a Jekyll and Hyde thing going on, but could Martinez’s presence trigger a trip to crazy town since he already knows everything about The Gov’s past?

TV Guide warns that viewers should be wary now that “Brian” is “reunited with his old lackeys,” but also says that his new “family” could be enough to keep him sane. Let’s just hope that Lilly, Tara, and Meghan survive — we have a feeling the future of Team Prison depends on it!

As David explained to TV Guide following Episode 6, "We know that Meghan is alive, and the difficulty he has at the end of this episode is that he has reinvented himself completely and his past has caught up with him." Literally! Martinez is eyeing his old leader from above the walker ditch, and although he quickly offers Meghan a hand up, he doesn’t extend the same courtesy to The Gov.

Martinez is obviously a character from “Brian’s” old life, but since he knows so much will The Governor’s true identity be revealed? Not it “Brian” can help it! "One of the things about The Governor being Brian is that he prefers being this person,” David notes.

Still, the question on everyone’s mind is how long The Governor can keep being “Brian” with Martinez breathing down his neck. Sure, the one-eyed wonder could kill Martinez, but that doesn’t seem like something “Brian” would do.

Do you think we’ll see a return of the twisted, murderous Governor, or has he reformed for good? Weigh in below!

The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
