Back in November, The Hollywood Reporter said actor Andrew J. West would be joining Season 4 in a "guest star" role with an option to be promoted to series regular in Season 5. You might know Andrew from Greek or Privileged. And he apparently plays the iPhone in the T-Mobile commercials.
He'll play someone named Gareth, who is not part of The Walking Dead comics/graphic novels. However, sources told THR he'll be "a remix of sorts of an unidentified character from the series." The character will reportedly have a big presence and play an important role. Then again, in early February, showrunner Scott Gimple gave Entertainment Weekly an update on Gareth: "I can say very little. Kind of from the books, kind of not totally from the books. Comic fans would not know him. He was an invention that was inspired for the show."
So which character will Andrew kinda sorta be remixing?
Maybe Gareth is connected to Terminus, or even the Alexandria Safe-Zone. He could be a TV version of Aaron, who offers to take Rick's group to the Safe-Zone. He could also be a version of Father Gabriel Stokes, a preacher the group meets on the road to D.C. Or maybe he's a TV take on Chris, leader of the cannibal group The Hunters. It feels too soon for Negan or any of The Saviors, but who knows.
Do you have any theories on Gareth or are you fine to just wait and see?
The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
