UPDATE: Four brief teasers for the second half of Season 4 aired during the New Year's Eve TWD marathon, and one featured Michonne — barely, though. We just see her holding her katana. Watch that new clip below, and check out the other videos over here.
We last saw her in the Episode 8 mid-season finale, after she sliced The Gov. with her katana. She left him to die. There was so much else going on, we didn’t get to see where she went after that. Maybe she found a group to leave with, but it’s possible she left the prison solo.
Comic book writer/executive producer Robert Kirkman told TV Guide the second half of the season would include flashbacks with glimpses into the lives of some characters — including probably Michonne, to explore her pre-apocalypse past as a mother. We haven’t forgotten that powerful scene earlier in the season when Michonne cried while holding baby Judith.
Speaking of Judith, our favorite post-battle fantasy scenario involves Michonne being the one to save the baby. All we saw was a car seat with blood in it. It’s possible one of those young girls still has baby Judith and the group just left her car seat behind. But it would make sense if a fighter like Michonne got blood on her hands — maybe from when she helped bloody Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) up off the ground — and left some blood when she scooped up the baby. No idea if that’s true or not, but we’ll see.
(According to Masslive, fans who leave near the Georgia filming locations posted on Facebook that they saw Melissa McBride, Chad Coleman and two twin babies filming on set in the back half of the season, which would imply that, at some point, Carol, Tyreese, and Judith end up together. No idea if Michonne is with them or not, but … a good sign?)
What happens next for Michonne in the comics?
*Spoilers ahead from the comic books*
At this point in the books, Michonne was mourning for Tyreese, with whom she had a relationship. (He was also with Carol, for a while.) Tyreese was the one who was decapitated by The Gov. in the books. After the prison battle, she reconnected with Rick and Carl, and they hooked up with the other group survivors back at the Greene family farm. They met three new people — that we’re expecting to meet probably in Episode 10 — and our former Team Prison decided to join them on the road to Washington, D.C. The group eventually got to the Alexandria Safe-Zone, among other area locations.
The comics are still being written, and as of now Michonne is still alive. Granted, Andrea is still alive too, but we’ll take good signs where we can find them.
*End of comic book spoilers*
Any theories for Michonne? Episode 10 is supposed to focus on four different storylines filled with “odd” couplings, so maybe she’s in one of them. (We’re expecting Episode 9 to be pretty Grimes-centric.) Which Team Prison members do you see her finding out there in the world? Do you think she’s with Judith?
The Walking Dead Season 4 returns on Sunday, February 9 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
