Tyreese (Chad Coleman) is in an interesting position as we approach the second half of The Walking Dead Season 4.

Earlier in the season, he lost his girlfriend Karen, but he still doesn’t know that Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) confessed to killing her to stop the deadly prison flu. At this point, it appears that Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan) and Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) may be the only people who know the story.

However, just before the big Episode 8 battle with The Governor (David Morrissey), Tyreese showed Rick and Daryl some kind of dead rabbit in the prison. He figured the same person who killed Karen and David also killed the rabbit, and also left the rats at the prison fence. Rick said it wasn’t the same person. He was about to talk about Carol when the shizz hit the fan.

During the battle, Tyreese was unexpectedly helped by Lizzie (Brighton Sharbino) and Mika Samuels (Kyla Kenedy). Tyreese was being shot at by Alisha, girlfriend of frightened Tara (Alanna Masterson). Lizzie turned her gun on Alisha and got her right in the forehead. Bam! The kids ran off and Tyreese said they were supposed to leave the other way. So we last saw him running after them, presumably hitting the road together.

It’s kind of exciting to imagine what might happen from here, especially since Tyreese is with the girls Carol trained to shoot without hesitation. You could argue that Lizzie saved his life, thanks to Carol’s lessons. Or maybe you don’t like that argument. Showrunner Scott Gimple told Vulture of the Lizzie-Alisha shot, “I like to say that scene, however sensational it is in the moment, was there to serve that Carol story. We’ll be addressing that in the future. It’s all part of a greater story. It’s important to know that that wasn’t just some big sensational moment.” So stay tuned.

Carol will be returning later this season, and Chad Coleman said they would be milking the Tyreese/Carol storyline for all it’s worth. Also, some time ago, Walking Dead fans in the local Georgia filming area said they saw Chad and Melissa McBride on set with baby twins, possibly playing Judith. They were reportedly filming scenes for the second half.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Carol/Tyreese story plays out. Does she tell him? Does he find out? Is there more to the story, in terms of how the kids fit in? We’re supposed to learn the truth about the rats at the fence, plus that rabbit, and we have Lizzie under suspicion until told it was someone else.

At this point, Tyreese is separated from his sister, Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), who was last seen with Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan) and the inured Bob Stookey (Larry Gilliard Jr.). We have to imagine part of Ty’s journey in the second half will involve an attempt to reunite with Sasha. She is his motivation now. We saw how emotional he was about losing his girlfriend; he’s not likely to be zen about being apart from his sister.

*Comic book spoilers ahead*

Tyreese didn’t have a sister in the comics. And he actually wasn’t around at this point in the story, so it’s anyone’s guess what he could do next. In the comics, Tyreese actually dies the way Hershel died on TV. The Governor slices his head off when Rick refuses to let The Gov. into the prison. Tyreese also had a relationship with Carol in the comics, while also having a sexual dalliance with Michonne. For all we know, TWD may go ahead and try for another love triangle, maybe involving those three or Daryl in place of Michonne. Or maybe they wouldn’t dare.

*End of comic book spoilers*

Whatever happens to Tyreese, we’re most curious to see how this Carol situation is addressed. How would Tyreese react if she told him to his face what she did and why? He punched Rick just out of grief and anger, but we can’t see him doing that to Carol. Still, it sounds like the story could get even meatier and more complicated. We can’t wait to see it play out!

What do you predict for Tyreese in the second half of Season 4? Will he bond with the kids? Come to fear them? Bond with Carol? Come to fear her too? How long before he reconnects with Sasha?

The Walking Dead Season 4 returns on Sunday, February 9 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
