The Walking Dead could use a good parody.

Saturday Night Live took a stab at it a while back, and the sketch was OK, but not as good as it could’ve been. The Bad Lip Reading is pretty genius — especially when The Governor sings — and the Honest Trailer called out some of the show’s inconsistencies. And of course there's the porn parody. But we want more!

So we’re very cautiously optimistic for this Walking Dead spoof filming down in San Antonio, Texas. It’s called Walking With the Dead and stars a couple of spoof veterans, including Joey Oglesby and Tim Olgetree of Supernatural Activity (Tim also wrote the script) and Dave Sheridan, who was in Scary Movie.

Here’s the description, via ComingSoon.net: “A month into the zombie apocalypse, a group of survivors, including four who ‘for safety reasons’ go by the names of their favorite cities Green Bay, Chicago, Brooklyn, and Harlem a Sheriff fresh off a nice, relaxing, six-week coma, his small-business-owner 10 year old son, and a voiceover-prone zombie, Romeo, who has convinced the group that he's not dead, just a little slow, are forced from the safety of their mall-camp in hopes of finding a rumored safe-haven.”

That makes it sound like it’s more than a TWD spoof, it’s taking on a bunch of zombie movies from Zombieland to Dawn of the Dead. That doesn’t have to be a bad thing — the zombie apocalypse is easy to mine for comedy, and just focusing on TWD alone might get old.

The spoof will also star Jacqui Holland of My Best Friend's Girl; and Sophia Ali of The Longshots. It’s directed by Scott Dow and produced through Jacqui’s production company, MNDFCK.

Are you a fan of spoof films like Scary Movie and Supernatural Activity? The trailers tend to be mildly funny, if nothing else, but it’s hard to keep the idea fresh for over an hour. Hopefully this one won’t be dead on arrival. Will you watch to find out, whenever it’s released?

The Walking Dead Season 4 returns with Episode 9 on Sunday, February 9 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
