The Walking Dead has a funky set-up, since the TV show is airing while the original source material is still being written. It’s kind of like Game of Thrones — except George R.R. Martin is taking his sweet time with the sixth book and comic book writer Robert Kirkman is as prolific as Stephen King with TWD comics.

The Walking Dead Season 4 returns with new episodes on February 9, and Robert shared more teases on the arrival of three newbies from the comics. “It's gonna be great,” he told IGN. “Everybody knows that Abraham, Eugene and Rosita are being brought into the show. They haven't been brought into the show yet, but they're definitely appearing in Season 4. We'll probably see them sooner rather than later in the back half of the fourth season, so you've got that to look forward to.”

We’re expecting them to arrive maybe in Episode 10, which should air on February 16. In the comics, they showed up in Issue No. 53. So that’s close to where we are in the AMC show’s storyline. In the “real world,” issue No. 120 is coming out next week, and No. 115 was named the best-selling comic of 2013.

That particular issue was part one of the "All Out War" volume, launching the war between Rick’s communities and Negan’s The Saviors. Negan is a big villain we’re expecting to see on TV, just not anytime soon.

Robert talked to IGN about what’s coming up for the comic series. “I can say that ‘All Out War’ is going to be wrapping up in April, and it's not going to end in a way that anyone is expecting. There's going to be some really cool things that come after that that we're working on now. We should be announcing that kind of stuff soon. But All Out War leads to some very cool things.”

What would be an unexpected end for the war? And how will they translate what’s happening now in print to the AMC show? They’re always mixing things up, and there are definitely story points we hope they change, for our own selfish reasons.

The Walking Dead Season 4 returns with Episode 9 on Sunday, February 9 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
