Here’s the official AMC description: "Many paths collide; Rick faces sheer brutality; the group struggles to survive."
It’s too early to have a clear idea of what that might entail, but … poor Rick. Just when you think he can’t take anymore, they find new ways to torture him.
The title is interesting and could mean any number of things. An AMC exec recently teased, "We know where this season ends, which is not unlike when we got to the prison — it’s a glimpse of what Season 5 will be." They got to the prison on the Season 3 premiere, ending a long stint on the road by finally finding a safe haven. (For a while anyway.) Maybe this "A" refers to the Alexandria Safe-Zone, a place the group does end up in the comics?
Comic book writer/executive producer Robert Kirkman told TV Guide the second half of Season 4 would start bleak but end on a “more hopeful” note so it would make sense if they did find a new safe place.
“Many paths collide” suggests former Team Prison group members may finally reunite. It’s also possible we’ll see Morgan Jones return in this episode, since Lennie James is now credited on IMDb for Episode 16. He was previously credited for episodes 15 and 16, so someone out there could just be playing games. And showrunner Scott Gimple did recently say he was misquoted when he said Morgan would return in Season 4. Maybe he meant Morgan would return at some point and it was assumed he meant this season. Or maybe Scott is now just trying to avoid spoilers.
Plus, don’t forget the rumor that actress Anissa Matlock was cast on Episode 16 (she is still credited on IMDb for “After”) possibly playing one of The Hunters. The Hunters are a group of cannibal survivors Rick’s group comes across in the comics after the prison battle and before the Safe-Zone section. So the timing would fit. Maybe The Hunters are tied to the “sheer brutality” poor Rick faces, or it could be a different kind of brutality. Brutality is never running low in this world!
We’re also supposed to meet a new guy named Gareth (Andrew J. West), who is meant to be a remix of a comic book character. We’ll have to update this if he shows up before the season finale, or if more details emerge, but we've been eyeing him as possibly a version of Chris, leader of The Hunters. (Or maybe he's Father Gabriel Stokes, as suggested below?)
We’re also supposed to get more intel on that “sanctuary” radio tease, so if that isn’t resolved before the Season 4 finale, maybe it will be tied into the paths colliding.
It’s just a lot of guesswork at this point, and the blanks will have to be filled in later. Here are the episode titles and brief synopses for the rest of the season. Maybe they’ll give you more hints on what’s to come.
Any theories about the big season finale? What do you think will happen to Rick? What paths will collide?
