The Walking Dead only has one “official” couple at this point — Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) and Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan) — but fans like to pair up the other characters, at least in their minds. Why not? It’s the end of the world and hot people are everywhere, it doesn’t make sense that no one is even attempting to make a move. Live a little!

Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) has been fan-paired with everyone from Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) and Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) to his bromance buddy Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and even Glenn. But what about Daryl and Michonne (Danai Gurira)? They showed some flirtatious chemistry and a shared hatred for The Governor earlier on Season 4, and they’re both sexy badasses who are most likely to survive the zombie apocalypse.

As a result, Team Dixonne popped up as a potential rival for Team Richonne, which has been pushing for Michonne and Rick to get together. On Episode 9, Michonne reunited with the Grimes boys, and showrunner Scott Gimple said she would be bound to them like family. That sounds good for Team Richonne, but where does actress Danai stand on the ‘shipping wars?

In a post-Episode 9 Q&A, AMC asked Danai if she’d heard of the Dixonne fans. “I only heard about that very recently through my sister. I’d mainly heard about the ‘Richonne,’ so ‘Dixonne’ was a new one. It’s cool. Of course we don’t really discuss amongst ourselves what’s happening with our characters, but it is obviously people seeing that there is a great connection that Daryl and Michonne have. So I get that people are seeing that, but whether or not it’s a romantic connection is another story.”

There’s probably already a fan-fiction story or two. Norman previously commented on the idea of a Daryl/Michonne hookup: “Never say never,” he told The Daily Beast. “She’s a cute girl. I’m not opposed to it.” But at this point, we don’t even know when Daryl and Michonne might see each other again. Daryl is now with Beth — and we’ll see him follow Michonne’s lead and start tracking his fellow former Team Prisoners through the woods in Episode 10.

What do you think of Team Dixonne? Do you see it? Do you think Michonne is better with Rick? What other couples can you see pairing up in the second half, or later, or do you think everybody should stay solo? It’s not like being paired up tends to work out for anyone on this show...

The Walking Dead Season 4 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
