We know Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) had an impressive modeling career before the transitioned into acting and became one of television’s hottest leading men thanks, in part, to The Walking Dead, but we had no idea that the 45-year-old is also a gifted athlete. Seriously, can he get any more appealing?!

Norman is on the cover of the March 2014 issue of Nylon Guys and in the mag he talked about his “sophisticated” Thanksgiving dinner with the Duck Dynasty cast and his junior tennis career. Um, say what?

In it’s own weirdly wonderful way the Duck Dynasty dinner makes sense, but we were truly thrown for a loop when Norman revealed he almost had what it took to go pro as a tennis player. We’ll let him explain: “I studied with a coach who approached me and offered to train me because he thought I had potential…I played the junior circuit, against guys who had all the fancy equipment and shoes and everything. I was in, like, basketball shoes and had a toy racket. I was surprised I made it as far as I did.”

Is there anything he can’t do?! We think not.

We love picturing Norman and his toy racket kicking some preppy boy ass, but ultimately we’re glad he chose to take the modeling/acting route instead. Where would TWD be without him?

And although he plays brooding Daryl on the AMC hit pretty perfectly, Norman says that contrary to his on-screen counterpart, he had a terrific childhood. “I had a blast growing up. I lived all over the place. I was a wild child,” he said.

Is this the first time you’ve heard about Norman’s junior tennis career, or did you already know he was a mini McEnroe? Tell us your thoughts below!

The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
