We’ve become accustomed to The Walking Dead pushing the envelope — Maggie Greene’s unfortunate encounter with The Governor (David Morrissey) and Hershel Greene’s (Scott Wilson) beheading are just some of the more cringe-worthy events in recent memory — but The Powers That Be really took things to the next level in the February 16th hour.

There have been some warning signs that Lizzie Samels (Brighton Sharbino) may be legitimately “messed up,” as her little sister Mika Samuels (Kyla Kenedy) likes to say. However, we were giving her the benefit of the doubt until we had further proof. After all, it can’t be that easy to grow up as a virtual orphan in a world where everyday is just a struggle to survive. But over the course of Season 4, Episode 10” Inmates”, Lizzie went from an odd little kid to someone we’re actually worried about.

The blonde tween started off killing some bunnies (poor Peter Cottontail!) but that was nothing compared to her decision to smother baby Judith. To be fair, Lizzie was trying to keep the baby quiet so she wouldn’t attract walkers, but for every second she had her hand over that kid’s mouth we were wondering if Robert Kirkman was really about to off an innocent infant.

Thankfully, Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) appeared and saved Judith and the Samuels sisters, bringing them back to Tyreese (Chad Coleman) so they could continue on as a fivesome. If anyone can get through to Lizzie, it’s Carol, so hopefully she picks up on her protege’s strange habits and puts a stop to them.

Then again, Carol was the one who taught Lizzie and her under 14 brethren how to use knives, so maybe she won’t see anything wrong with Lizzie’s bunny slaying, baby smothering ways. Everyone’s still alive, right?! Well, except for those fluffy rabbits...

Are you disturbed by Lizzie’s behavior, or do you think she just did what she thought was necessary to survive? Tell us your thoughts below!

The Walking Dead Season 4 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
