The preview videos have focused on one Team Prison group: Carol (Melissa McBride), Tyreese (Chad Coleman), Lizzie (Brighton Sharbino), Mika (Kyla Kenedy) and baby Judith. Things look good and bad for them at different times, but mostly bad. Possibly very bad. This ep was written by showrunner Scott Gimple, and it could possibly be the “controversial” episode Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) talked about a while back. That’s just a gut feeling at this point, since Ep 15 is also coming up and that one may even be darker.
Here are 10 questions/comments/points to ponder from the promo and sneak peek videos shared so far:
1. Where's Judith?
At the start of the promo, we just see Tyreese, Carol, Lizzie, and Mika walking the tracks. Is Judith in some kind of Baby Bjorn behind Ty? She probably is, but it makes us nervous not to see her.
2. Lizzie Is Feeling Playful
In one sneak peek, Lizzie, Tyreese, and baby Judith are sitting by the train tracks. It's not clear why Carol and Mika aren't with them, but Lizzie wants to play "I Spy," so she says, "I spy trees and weeds. Your turn." Ty doesn't take his turn, for reasons explained in #3, but the other sneak peek shows a child playing with a walker in the backyard. Is that Lizzie again, or Mika? It's hard to see the child, but they appear to be playing a game of tag with the walker. In the promo, it looks like someone is sitting at a table in front of a puzzle. That person has a long-sleeve shirt on and seems to be pawing at a gun, like it's their precious. Is that Lizzie?
3. What's up With the Gun?
In the promo, we first see someone's hand slowing moving for a gun. Another shot shows someone sitting down in front of a puzzle, appearing to stroke the gun with the fingers on their left hand. It looks like Lizzie's shirt. Is she a leftie?
4. Someone Is Coming Down the Tracks
In the "I Spy" sneak peek, Ty is holding baby Judith, but he passes her to Lizzie, telling her to stay there while he goes to investigate someone or something ambling down the tracks. Never leave the baby with Lizzie! Is that a walker or a person? I Spy a stranger! Either way, Ty should’ve learned not to leave the kids alone. Let the walker/person/whatever come closer to them. Do you think Lizzie could start smothering Judith again, while Ty is busy with whoever?
5. There's a Shelter, With Good Stuff Inside
The synopsis for this ep talks about establishing a new shelter and returning things to the way they used to be. The Talking Dead sneak peek shows a house in the woods; it has food like nuts and apparently water to boil on a burner on the stove. There's even music. It looks like a good place to stay... although nowhere is safe for long.
6. Walkers Attack
Another scene in the promo shows a walker crawling on the ground, and you can see what looks like a structure behind it. We also see a group of walkers in a grassy area. Do they get attacked and take shelter in the home, or are they somehow forced out of the home?
7. Why Are the Kids Running?
One scene in the promo shows Mika and Lizzie running on the train tracks, and it doesn't look like they're doing it for fun. They appear to be fleeing.
8. Does Mika Die?
We've been wondering if the show might do a whole Ben/Billy child killer storyline, like in the comics, but it's possible if one of the sisters does die, it's the old-fashioned way: a walker bite. One really scary scene in the promo shows Mika looking like she tripped over some kind of fence wire. She's surrounded by walkers and one is about to grab her foot. She seems to scream for Carol to help. Can Carol help? Does she? Maybe this scene takes place when Ty, Lizzie, and Judith are at the train tracks. What if Mika and Judith both die in separate but concurrent scenes, and then Carol and Ty have to discuss doing something about Lizzie. Is that way too dark?
9. Tyreese Makes a Sad Speech
Ty: "The whole world is haunted now. We are who we are, and we do what we do. And there's no gettin' out of that. Not until we're dead." He appears to be talking to Carol. What prompts this deep discussion? The death of one of the kids? Some other event? Does she confess her role in the Karen/David murders? Does he take it like a philosophical champ? Are they just sharing their grief and guilt, or is he suggesting they kill Lizzie before she strikes again?
10. Why Are Lizzie and Carol Crying?
In separate clips, we see Lizzie's head bent forward, crying, and Carol sobbing. Lizzie is kneeling on the ground in her scene and Carol seems to be standing. Are they grieving for Mika and/or Judith? These look like grieving sobs. Who dies and how? Is anyone to blame?
Watch the videos below and share your own impressions. If someone doesn’t die this week, we’ll be surprised, just based on Carol’s sobbing alone. She’s not exactly a shrinking violet anymore, so something must get that kind of reaction out of her. Are you worried for Mika and Judith — or Tyreese, Carol, and Lizzie?
UPDATE: Head to the bottom of this "What Happens in Episode 14" story if you want to read spoilers on what reportedly happens. It answers the question of who dies...
