What would've started a fire big enough to char walkers and leave smoke hanging in the air for young scientist Mika (Kyla Kenedy) to analyze on The Walking Dead Season 4? Could it be ... Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) and Daryl Dixon’s (Norman Reedus) burnin' moonshine cabin?

We wondered if there'd be any fallout from the giant fire at the end of Episode 12, "Still," and it looks like that's what we saw on Episode 14, "The Grove." Talking Dead guest Yvette Nicole Brown said it took her 20 minutes to realize the smoke came from that house. Fellow guest CM Punk (aka Phil Brooks) agreed that the smoke came from the fire set by Daryl and "his girlfriend" Beth. (Yvette, a Caryl shipper, did not like that addition.)

Host Chris Hardwick wasn’t sure the fire came from Chez Bethyl, and Melissa McBride (Carol Peletier) said it could’ve been from anything. To her, the important thing was how the fire related to the story, having these burned walkers on the track, and the group asking each other “Do you smell that”? “Poor Tyreese,” Melissa said, because you can imagine the sights and smells reminded him of Karen, taking him back to her death at the prison, leading to his nightmares and, ultimately, Carol’s confession.

Still, it’d be nice to also tie the smoke to another Team Prison group — linking their events in space and time — and it does make sense that the moonshine house’s giant fire would result in a huge plume of smoke. On Talking Dead, they said showrunner Scott Gimple believes walkers' decaying vision attracts them to the fire, since walkers can still see light and movement, and that lends credence to the idea that walkers would be drawn to the burning cabin.

Anyway, those burned walkers looked cool. Special effects guru Greg Nicotero explained that they had four "super crispy" and four "medium crispy" walkers with varying degrees of charred-ness. You know who’d love the smell of super crispy walkers? The Hunters! (Too gross? Too soon? Too bad!)

The Walking Dead Season 4 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
