Bob Stookey was the mysterious newbie in Team Prison at the start of Season 4 of The Walking Dead, and his portrayer, Larry Gilliard Jr., was the show’s “new guy” as well. In an interview with AMCTV.com, Larry opens up about what it’s been like to join the cast of the hit show, as well as what his wife think’s of his possibly misunderstood role.

So what does he think of TWD so far, since it’s decidedly different than the crime-centric shows like The Wire that he’s done in past? “You get to play and have more fun and be more creative when you’re doing a show like this. Killing zombies — that’s what you do as a kid! Now I get to do it as a grownup. I definitely looked forward to the change and I’m having fun.”

Larry’s wife, The Wire’s Michelle Paress, is also a fan of the AMC hit, but she’s more interested in the drama of the show than watching her hubby do his thing on TV. Ha! We love it!

“When she’s watching television, she becomes a total fan. And when she sees the characters, even though she’s an actress she still sees them as characters,” Larry says of his wife. “After the show goes off, she’ll call me and say, ‘Why did Bob do that?’ She reacts like a fan — when she’s watching the show, she doesn’t see her husband.”

Larry and his lady love may both be fond of TWD and his role, but the 42-year-old actor admits to being a bit intimidated when he joined the show’s cast last year.”This is Season 4 and they’re all a family and I’m the new guy,” he dished. “But they’ve been very welcoming, unlike the prison group where you have to prove yourself first.”

Given Bob’s recent sweet kiss with Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) we certainly hope Larry sticks around for the foreseeable future, but we won't hold our breath just yet, especially if he can’t get his pesky little alcohol problem under control.
