When you hear “savage,” after thinking about Ben and Fred Savage and wondering how they’re doing, do you think of The Hunters?

The Walking Dead Season 4 ends next week (March 30) with Episode 16, “A.” We’ve already heard several adjectives about it from showrunner Scott Gimple with a few more thrown in from Robert Kirkman.

But during RK’s Reddit AMA, when he was asked to sum up the season finale in one word, he came up with a good one and put it in all caps: “SAVAGE. Honestly... people are going to be talking about this one. The cliffhanger at the end of season 4 will make the wait between seasons 4 and 5 the hardest wait we've ever had. ENJOY!”

Gah! He’s worse than The Governor (David Morrissey)! OK, maybe not. But does “savage” sound like a hint to the cannibal storyline from the comics, aka The Hunters? We know brutality is coming on the season finale, especially for Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), but is that related to The Hunters or just those marauder guys from the “Claimed” house?

That brings us back to the same questions we’ve been asking for a while now: Are the marauder guys The Hunters or not? Is Terminus The Hunters’ base or not? Is whoever took Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) one of The Hunters or someone more benign, like a TV version of Father Gabriel?

As part of Robert Kirkman’s AMA, he was also asked if he could say anything about Beth’s whereabouts after her supposed abduction. He answered, “We will see Beth again... eventually.” That just plays into the theory out there that Beth’s story may be held over into Season 5. What if — ugh — The Hunters storyline is teased when we see a Beth body part. Is that too much? Maybe Beth is the new comic book Dale.

Don’t forget that a character named Gareth has yet to appear and time is running out for him to have any involvement in the season, never mind an important role. Obviously the solution is to extend TWD for another 16 episodes instead of taking a break until October. All in favor?

The Walking Dead Season 4 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
