When Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) met up with Tyreese (Chad Coleman), Lizzie Samuels (Brighton Sharbino), Mika Samuels (Kyla Kenedy), and baby Judith, she revealed that she had been trailing them since they fled the prison after The Governor’s (David Morrissey) attack. So what brought her back to the home that Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) banished her from and how much did she see of that fatal confrontation?
These were questions asked of actress Melissa McBride in a bonus clip from last week’s episode of Talking Dead, and this is what she had to say:
“She went back for the children, and I’m certain that she didn’t see much. I would hope if she came in when all that stuff was actually going down she would’ve taken a shot at The Gov.”
We totally agree that badass Carol would’ve tried to stop one-eyed Bri if she could, but we bet she didn’t catch much. Given Carol’s recent actions (first killing Karen and then shooting Lizzie) some people have started to wonder if she could be on her way to becoming another Governor. Theoretically, The Gov. was once just a guy who, like her, did whatever needed to be done.
There is a fine line between the two perhaps, but Melissa doesn’t think Carol is in Gov. territory just yet.
“I think this whole thing about change and how ugly and scary these things are that we have to do, I think to a certain degree you have to detach in order to be able to do those things that are required to survive,” she reasoned. “But, if you change too much you give up too much of yourself, you lose sight of who you are and those core elements that make you a sympathetic human being. You have to maintain that some how, some way.”
We’d never thought of comparing Carol to The Governor, but in a way the trajectory makes sense. Still, we don’t believe Carol would ever be capable of doing what he did.
