Are you guys sitting down?

The Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira (Michonne) stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live on April 1 and we’re more than a little ashamed to say that we just sat down and watched her appearance. Her April Fool’s day stint on Kimmel was the first talk show she did solo, and to say she killed it is a total understatement.

Her interview started with the prerequisite idle chit-chat — how to correctly pronounce her name, her other career as a playwright — but once talk turned to TWD the evening really kicked off. First Danai confirmed that the cast starts shooting Season 5 “in about a month” and recalled how much everyone in the cast misses each other. “It’s very interesting, we kind of miss each other so much because we love each other, it’s kind of ridiculous,” she dished. “So we’ve got the longest e-mail chain in the world.”

Naturally, Jimmy was sure to ask about the upcoming fifth season, wondering if Danai was privy to any plot details. “I’m not really, sort of here and there but not really,” she confessed. “I’m meeting with the writers tomorrow so I’m sure I’ll know a lot more then.” Jimmy then wondered if Danai tells the writers what she’d interested in doing in Season 5, but she made it clear that Scott  Gimple and the others on the creative team really run the show.“We have really great conversations. I adore [showrunner] Scott Gimple so he’s really great at listening and telling me what’s going on and really collaborating that way, but generally they have it, I’m not going to tell them what to do,” she said. “They know how to work this genre pretty well.”

Are you ready for the epic “spoiler”? Because here it comes…

Jimmy wasn’t about to let Danai off the hook that easily, so he pressed on for more details about Season 5 and the gorgeous actress gave him the following jaw-dropping response: “I had an amazing time really opening her up,” she said of Michonne. “She was very, very enigmatic, kind of very stoic, very distant, so it was really cool to open her up this season and really get to know her more with the audience and open up her maternal side and show that part of herself where she actually had that and starts to connect with Carl. And it so works perfectly with what’s going to happen with her and Rick having a baby and…”

Realizing what she had just spoiled Danai pleaded with Jimmy, asking, “Jimmy, can we cut that?” Just as he was about to answer however, Danai admitted that the whole thing was a brilliantly executed April Fool’s joke. Well played, girl. Although, apparently we have Scott to thank. “That was my bosses, that was all Scott Gimple, Scott Gimple wrote that!,” Danai declared in attempt to explain the rouse.
