With The Walking Dead off the air until October 2014, what’s left to focus on aside from the highly-anticipated spin-off (which is actually more of a companion show) set to debut sometime in 2015?

We’ve been hankering for some serious spin-off intel for quite some time now and, slowly but surely, our dreams are coming true. TWD comic book creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman (who will also EP this new series) recently gave MTV.com an update on this walker-rific project. “As far as the spin-off goes, I'm actively working with [Showrunner] Dave Erickson on that, and we know when our proposed release date is — although I can't tell you that, obviously.”

Say what?! All we’ve known about a premiere date up until this point is that the new show will bow sometime in 2015, so hearing that RK actually has a finite date gives us hope — even if he won’t be divulging the specifics just yet.

Robert did, however, leave us with this nice little tease regarding the spin-off: “We're working towards that show, and it's gonna be awesome.”

So what do we know so far? The spin-off will be “awesome” but it won’t include any TWD characters (past or present) or characters from the TWD comics. The timeline and location for the spin-off are also up in the air, but it most definitely will not be set in Georgia.

Now we know that’s a lot to take in (not really), so feel free to mull it over and share your own thoughts and theories in the comments below!

The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October 2014 on AMC. The “companion show” is scheduled to premiere in 2015.
