Admittedly, we don’t know that much about Rosita Espinosa’s (Christian Serratos) personality just yet, but from what we do know about The Walking Dead’s resident sexy gal, we can gather that she’s a no-nonsense character who is determined to get her hands on anything and everything she wants and has little tolerance for BS.

Actress Christian Serratos chatted with AMCTV.com about how she prepared to play the iconic comic book character, noting, “Of course I did my research on the show and the character and the history of the comic books. I got a sense of what fans liked about Rosita and what they wanted to see from her. I should have probably been preparing a little bit more physically, but I wasn’t, so I got thrown into the workouts during filming. Being thin is really deceiving. I managed to be thin with absolutely no muscle whatsoever!”

Disregarding that last statement (which has us loaded with envy!) we love that Christian really studied Rosita and researched exactly what’s drawn fans to her. Also, it didn’t hurt that comic book Rosita and Christian kind of look alike. “I think I do look like her!” Christian declared. “It’s cool for me because being a part of Twilight, everybody wanted to see what you looked like and they had their opinion of what you looked like in the book. This time around, it’s not up to your imagination. It’s drawn right there. She’s a really tough gal, and I think it’d be really hard to not keep her that way. I have a knife, and I have of course my Rosita holsters that you see in the comic book. With two guns and a knife, I’m fully equipped.”

We must say that the casting for Rosita, Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz), and Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt) was pretty spot-on, and even though Michael doesn’t really have bright red hair in real life (Josh doesn’t rock a mullet either) it was clearly important to the Powers That Be that the trio represent their comic book counterparts, and we’re glad they made that call.

Still, Christian says that while she’s physically similar to her TV alter-ego, Rosita has some qualities that she really envys. “I’m similar to her in the way that she is very headstrong, which in my case is a nice way of saying stubborn. But she’s very brave. She’s the type of gal who knows what she wants and what she’s doing, but I think she’s a lot more brave than I am. She’d be my best friend. She’s a lot like one of my best friends at home who I’ve known for ten years.”

In case you weren’t already aware, Christian was upped to series regular for Season 5, so that means there’s plenty more of her and Rosita in our future. Are you happy about that? Vote below!

The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October 2014 on AMC.
