The cast and crew of The Walking Dead are expected to start production on Season 5 any day now in Atlanta, and if current showrunner Scott Gimple has his way, the AMC hit could go on for ten years (or even longer!) with one important caveat.

Scott spoke to Larry King on a recent installment of Larry King Now, and he was loaded with intel on our favorite characters, beloved couples, and more.

At first, however, Scott was a bit cagey and balked at the idea of answering a question about whether or not Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) will be forced to choose between Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride). “When we talk about Season 5 stuff, can I just say pass?” Larry didn’t answer, but he also didn’t seem to mind much seeing as he went right into the next question.

When asked about how long TWD will last, Scott was much more open with his answer. “As a comic book, I don’t know if it will end. As a TV show, all TV shows end but I will say, I think it’s possible that it could go on, and on, and on. I think it it went ten years, if it went longer than that, it’s possible that the cast — consIdering the amount of deaths on this cast and everything else — after ten, twelve years it could shift into a whole new cast.”

Larry then boasted that he was on CNN for an impressive 26 years, so Scott jokingly one-upped him, noting,“Then I’m going to say 27 years.”

But let’s rewind a bit, shall we? This is hardly the first time we’ve heard about TWD’s staying power — AMC’s Charlie Collier would like to see the series continue for many, many years as well — but from what we can recall this is the first time anyone has talked about swapping out casts.

To be fair, the show essentially does this already since characters are always dying and new faces are continually added to the cast, but just the thought of being left with no original cast members is a bit daunting to us.

Would you like to see TWD continue for as long as possible, even with an entirely new cast, or do you think it should end if and when all of the original characters have died? Check out Scott’s full interview with Larry King below and tell us where you stand!

The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October 2014 on AMC.
