Rosita Espinosa may be The Walking Dead’s resident short-shorts wearing, gun toting, zombie killing badass, but her portrayer Christian Serratos couldn’t be more different. Sure, they’ve both got that whole beautiful thing on lock, but in real life Christian is very environmentally aware and strives to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Rosita, on the other hand, is just concerned with staying alive.

Still, Christian is using her fame from the Twilight movies and The Walking Dead to raise awareness about a movement that is very close to her heart: going vegan! Though many people are “green” these days, Christian knows these lifestyle changes haven’t always translated to eating habits, so she’s teamed up with PETA in an effort to get folks excited about going vegan, or at least vegetarian.

As part of the effort, PETA and Christian have purchased ads promoting veganism that will be placed on electric car charging stations, thus targeting people that are already environmentally aware. According to LooktotheStars.org, the ads are very direct, with one even declaring, “Producing two strips of bacon generates three times the amount of greenhouse gases that driving 1 mile in a Prius does. Save the world — go vegan.” Short, straight, and to the point. We like it!

And Christian is hardly just another pretty face playing spokesperson. It’s clear this cause is something that has her full support. “Environmentalists who have switched to all-electric cars may be shocked to discover that the hybrids they deemed not ‘green’ enough are still far ‘greener’ than bacon,” she notes. “PETA’s message for Earth Day and every day is that the most effective way to help the environment — and animals — is to go vegetarian.”

Are you surprised to learn that Christian is so passionate about helping the Earth and going vegetarian? Will you follow her example? Tell us what you think in the comments below!

The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October 2014 on AMC.
