We’ve lost a lot of great, beloved characters on The Walking Dead, but everyone seems to have one loss that they’ve never been able to fully recover from. Weather it’s Lori Grimes’s unfortunate death just after welcoming baby Judith, Andrea’s sob-worthy passing at the end of Season 3, or some other demise entirely, TWD’s first four seasons have been loaded with tear-jerking deaths.

Many of these deaths were engineered (in some way) by current showrunner Scott Gimple, so in a recent interview when Larry King asked Scott which character he’d bring back from beyond, our ears instantly perked up.

“That’s very difficult to choose,” Scott lamented. “But I’ll say just having done the finale with Scott Wilson I love the story we told around his demise, Hershel’s demise but man I love Scott Wilson.”

Like Mr. Gimple, we hate to play favorites, but Scott would get our vote to come back as well. Hershel forever!

The eldest member of Team Prison was beheaded by The Governor (David Morrissey) in the Season  4 midseason finale, and although his death was particularly brutal, he kind of did already come back to us in the Season 4 finale at the end of last month. Sure, he returned in a brief flashback and not in the (non-zombified) flesh as we’d prefer, but we’ll take what we can get at this point.

Do you agree with Scott that Hershel is the man to bring back from the dead if you had a choice, or are you partial to another character instead? Check out Scott and Larry’s full interview below and tell us what you think!

The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October 2014 on AMC.
