The Walking Dead writer/producer Robert Kirkman is the king of vague teases, but every so often one of them pans out. So we pay attention.
Season 5 is going into production now, with filming starting next week, and the new season premiering in October on AMC. RK dropped a few sentences about Season 5 into his recent appearance on Sundance’s The Writers’ Room.
"Every season we always come in with new characters, building up a largely new cast in new situations, going into a new environment, and I think we don't do that thing you think that successful shows would do — like 'OK, this formula works, never change this!'” Robert said. “And so by the time we get to Season 5, I think that the world will have matured to a point that we're going to be going into some really interesting places that I think are going to shock a lot of people. So it's going to be pretty cool."
Interesting places. No set formula. What could shock us, though? Are you taking that with salt or do you think maybe some real shockers are coming? Not gonna lie, we never saw the Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) abduction thing coming, so they definitely have enough in their toolbox to legitimately surprise us. And even when things turn out as expected, because of the comic books or just sheer storytelling logic, we’re rarely disappointed.
Do you think you might be one of the people shocked by TWD Season 5, or do you roll your jaded eyes at such a thought?
