UPDATE 1: AMC shared the first official Season 5 photo on May 13, which is pretty close to last year's schedule!

Original story:

The Walking Dead Season 5 just started filming in the first week of May, but — alas — the cast and crew are not posting daily footage for us to watch. That would be so convenient, but we’re going to have to wait for premiere photos, first-look video footage, and other details.

We’ve already had some official casting updates, including Seth Gilliam playing someone, and a teenage character called Burton showing up (with one leg). Those details tend to trickle out at random times.

When will promos come out? All we can do is look back in time to what they did last year and figure they’ll probably do the same. TWD likes to surprise us on screen, but when it comes to the 16-episode schedule, they tend to follow a bit of a pattern. They started filming in the first week of May, like last year, and they’ll premiere the new season in October, as in every other year. Even the new DVDs are coming out in August, like they usually do.

• Filming started May 6 last year, and on May 10 AMC released the first photo from Season 4, Episode 1 — showing Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) in the woods, with crazy Clara behind him.

• Last June, AMC shared a behind-the-scenes video called "In Production, Gearing up for Season 4: Inside The Walking Dead." The video is set during filming for Season 4, Episode 1, so maybe they'll share another sneak peek like this for Season 5.

• On July 1, TVLine revealed that Season 4, Episode 1 would be titled "30 Days Without an Accident," so hopefully we'll get an official Season 5 premiere title by that point in 2014. (Spoiler rumors often come out before stuff is official, so you might see that again too.)

• Also in July 2013, at San Diego Comic-Con, they confirmed the exact October premiere date and posted that amazing extended promo with tons of footage from the first four episodes of Season 4. This year’s San Diego Comic-Con is scheduled for July 24-27, 2014, so expect a lot of info to come out of that.

So, if they do anything similar this year, we’re on standby for a Season 5 premiere photo to be released very soon, plus a behind-the-scenes video, and more information in the summer, just before and during Comic-Con.

Here’s a look at last year’s schedule, for more on what we might be able to expect.

The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October on AMC.
