Warning: The Walking Dead comic book spoilers ahead!
Fans of The Walking Dead TV show who don't follow the comics may not know this, but Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) is currently in a relationship with Andrea. Yep, that Andrea. She died on TV in the Season 3 finale, but she's still alive as Rick’s girlfriend (although she has more going on than just that) in the comic books.
Andrea’s not the only one who gets close to Rick in the books, which are still being written by show exec producer Robert Kirkman. Season 5 of the AMC show just started filming, and we're around Issue 57-64 when it comes to "remixing" the comics for TV. It's possible that Rick and company will reach the Alexandria Safe-Zone by the end of Season 5, and that's a place where a whole bunch of stuff happens.
Rick and company meet many new people at the Safe-Zone, including a woman named Jessie Anderson. She has a husband, Pete, and a son, Ron, but it turns out that Pete is abusive. Rick has a confrontation with Pete that ends in Pete’s death. After that, Rick and Jessie get romantic. But things don't end well, since Jessie and Ron are killed in dramatic fashion during a herd attack.
Jessie first shows up in Issue 72, and dies in Issue 83. After that, Rick and Andrea get closer and their relationship eventually becomes more than friendship.
That can't happen on TV anymore, obviously, but maybe Michonne (Danai Gurira) will take over that part of Andrea's role? Michonne and Rick have great chemistry on TV and she's become part of the family now. Maybe they aren't romantic yet, but it could happen over time.
Season 5 is meant to feature a lot of different locations, so Rick and company may be too busy on the road to have any time for love. Then again, showrunner Scott Gimple did recently say there would be more romance ahead on the show, beyond Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) and Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan). Bob Stookey (Larry Gilliard Jr.) and Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) have already hinted to couple-hood — and we know Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz) and Rosita Espinosa (Christian Serratos) are meant to be dating — so he may have meant either of them.
Or he could've meant Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and [Your Preferred Option Here]. But maybe he was looking ahead to Rick's story in the comics, and some lovin' for Papa Grimes, long after the prison death of his (not terribly supportive) wife Lori.
Do you hope Rick finds a love interest in Season 5 or 6, or would you rather he avoid that kind of thing?
The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October on AMC.
