Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) was nearly destroyed when he found out that his wife, Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) died during the birth of baby Judith, but he was spared the horror of seeing the love of his life as a walker. Instead, Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) shot his mom just after she turned.

But in a snippet of this deleted scene from Season 3, which we first told you about over a year ago, Rick and Lori get an alternate ending to their relationship as the former sheriff comes face-to-face with his walker wife. Yikes!

The scene begins as Rick spots his lady love in the field outside the prison fence. He walks over to her and the pair engage in a passionate kiss, but as Rick pulls away to get a good look at Lori’s face she turns into a walker and he instinctually backs away. Still, Rick keeps an eye on walker Lori from a safe distance and his gaze lingers on her face long enough to see a single tear fall down her face.

The start of the scene makes it pretty clear that this is one of Rick’s hallucinations, but we couldn’t help but wonder if this was a more fitting ending for the couple. Do you prefer this scene to Rick’s hallucinations that we actually saw in Season 3? Was it important for Rick to see his wife as a walker?

The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October 2014 on AMC.
