We’ve thoroughly enjoyed Glenn Rhee’s (Steven Yeun) transformation from nerdy-looking pizza boy on The Walking Dead Season 1 to ripped badass going into Season 5. Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan) probably doesn’t mind it either. But apparently it wasn’t quite supposed to happen as it did.
TWD comic book writer/TV show executive producer Robert Kirkman was recently on the Doug Loves Movies podcast, and they were talking about how the actors on TWD are all really badass now in how they look and act. They could all be action stars.
"They're nothing like that in real life, though," RK told Doug Benson and his fellow guests. "I have to stress that." But look how Steven Yeun has changed in several seasons, they noted.
"Steven Yeun in particular, I'll give him crap," RK said, "because in between Season 1 and 2 he basically was just like 'You know what, I'm going to be buff now.' He spent the entire off-season lifting weights. So he showed up for Season 2 and we were like 'That's not what we wanted! Why are you doing that?'"
But it is the zombie apocalypse with limited food, so everyone should probably be getting more lean and toned, as opposed to jacked. But it's also TV, and we approve of everyone's increased hotness.
Do you think Glenn should've stayed un-buff (is that even a word?) or do you appreciate the physical effort and results?
The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October on AMC.
