UPDATE 2: On May 17, Chase tweeted, "my #ZombieKiller and #NotDyingEasily tweet was about my new film I'm doing were I'm a Vampire fighting Zombies, not a Walking Dead Spoiler. ... I didn't leak any spoilers for the show, all my tweets are about other projects!"

UPDATE 1: Wow. Here's another twist we didn't see coming. We were surprised at the number of tweets shared by Chase Vasser about his upcoming stint on The Walking Dead Season 5, but we love a good TWD tease, so we just hoped for more. But on May 16 he updated with the tweet, "I will not be on the Walking Dead! #sorryfans." Huh? Even weirder, producer Gale Anne Hurd retweeted that, adding, "He was never cast on the show. Made it all up. #Fraud." Yikes! Trust no one, apparently. Well, that's a shame. He seemed like a decent guy, if a little bit over-excited, but not if he really did just make it all up.

Original story (May 14):

Somebody's ready for "Beast Mode"!

You may recall former UGA football player-turned-actor Chase Vasser for his “#cannibaltwist” tweet last month when he announced he had auditioned for and landed a role on The Walking Dead Season 5. He also revealed that he’d never seen an episode of the show before.

He got rid of that “#cannibaltwist” tweet, but not before it was spread around by eagle-eyed TWD viewers. (You can hide nothing from this fan base.) We read a little too much into this later tweet — "So ready to start eating full meals again. Looking super skinny! #methodactor" — thinking maybe it was a hint to his TWD character starving in Terminus.

That could still be what he does in Season 5, but on May 13, he tweeted, "That's A Wrap! Finally done being 193 pound drug addict. Beast Mode now for next Role! #ZombieKiller #NotDyingEasily."

So it sounds like he was getting skinny for that other role, but “zombie killer” certainly hints to TWD, unless he’s pulling double-duty on multiple zombie shows. TWD Season 5 did just start filming last week, and Denise Crosby (Mary) just tweeted on May 12 that she had her first day back on set, so the timing is right for more guest stars to show up.

It’s not clear if Chase’s excitement is related to a significant role on TWD or a cameo as someone stuck in a Terminus train car, a Termite, or what. We’ll have to wait until October (or at least until Season 5 promo footage comes out) to see!

The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October on AMC.
