UPDATE: It's still possible a major death has already been filmed (it's a pretty safe bet that more deaths are coming at some point in Season 5, see the show title) but TWD Enthusiasts's sources said it’s not Glenn. As they wrote, "We have information from our own reliable source on the ground in Georgia stating this rumor is 100% NOT TRUE. Our insider, who is familiar with the filming schedule, confirmed that Glenn has not been killed off at this point in filming."

Maybe this whole thing is just misdirection, since The Powers That Be must know by now that fans are spreading rumors online and they'd like to be able to control the message in some way. There's another rumor floating around that Bob gets Dale's death from the comics, but let's not all jump on board with that one either. These are all rumors at this point, on all sides from all sources. Long story short: No one knows anything for sure. Fun stuff!

Original story:

This is not good.

The Walking Dead Season 5 is currently filming in Georgia and The Spoiling Dead Fans has been updating anxious fans with set details. Unfortunately, things just took a scary turn.

As they posted today (May 28):

“RUMOR: we have heard from multiple sources about a possible death. Word is the death of Glenn was filmed yesterday. It's possible it could be someone else, but multiple sources stated Glenn. Reports are the set was locked down and everyone was told the cast would not be coming out.”

Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun). Can you imagine? Poor Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan). Poor us!

The site said it was currently still just a rumor and they were working on getting more information. Adding possible credence to the rumor: Around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, Alanna Masterson (Tara) tweeted, "When someone great is gone." As Spoiling Dead later updated, “Steven reportedly left set at 2 or right around then. Alanna's tweet was at 1:28. It's said that Steven was hugging production members and shaking everyone's hand while leaving.”

Ugh. Michael Rooker (Merle Dixon) was also in Griffin, GA and went out to dinner with at least Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon). He may have just been visiting, but it’s possible it was a “death dinner."

According to Chandler Riggs (Carl Grimes), they are only finishing Episode 2 filming today. So this would be a very early death. They did say this season would hit the ground running with lots of action and big twists!

The Walking Dead Season 4 was relatively light on "big" deaths, although Hershel Greene (Scott Wilson) will be missed forever, and we were warned that more deaths may be coming in Season 5 to compensate. Glenn, though? Just when he reunited with Maggie? Would they do that? Maybe Steven was ready to leave TWD to work on other film projects, like the one that was just announced. Or maybe The Powers That Be decided a shocking death like this is just what we need to remember how high the stakes are in this world.

*Comic book spoilers ahead*

If the rumor is true about Glenn, it would be a very different death for him than in the comics. In the books. Glenn dies at the hands of Negan, via his baseball bat Lucille. That’s way down the pike from where we are in term of the TV show, but Hershel’s death was actually given to Tyreese in the books, so maybe they are saving Glenn’s comic book death for another TV character. Some fans are already speculating that the AMC show may be planning to have Negan kill Daryl on TV. Mind = blown and this is all still just Rumorville talk!

*End of comic book spoilers*

Hopefully this rumor is off base. Glenn has so much more to do on TWD, and we were looking forward to some Gleggie happiness. Hasn’t he been through enough?!

But characters will die this season, like they do every season. It’s part of the show and TWD wouldn’t have as much impact if people didn’t die (especially people we love — it’s not like we’re in deep mourning for Joe). If not Glenn, then who? And when? And how?
