The Walking Dead may be off the air until October 2014, but even in its hiatus the hit AMC show is breaking records. How typical!

After a record-breaking season in terms of viewership, Deadline reports that the post-apocalyptic drama is also killing it on social media as well, at least according to the folks over at Nielsen who just released their list of the most tweeted about shows. With an average Twitter audience of 6, 026, 000 and around 521,000 tweets, AMC’s other hit, Breaking Bad, actually takes the No. 1 spot, but TWD is close behind with an audience of 5, 168,000 and 576,000 tweets. Other programs on the list include Pretty Little Liars, Scandal, and Game of Thrones.

While we trust Nielsen's data, there are a few caveats worth noting. For one, these rankings only take into account tweets that were posted three hours before and after  the program’s initial airing, so if you binged-watched TWD Season 4 last weekend and tweeted your every thought, you’re tweets weren’t taken into account when these rankings were compiled. Still. the show’s in the top ten spots were also ratings winners, so we doubt the reduced window had much of an affect on the final results.

As TWD fans, we also consider ourselves lucky that the cast is very active on social media, something that can’t really be said for the Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones casts. After all, Danai just joined Twitter last week, and she’s one of the last TWD holdouts. We’re looking at you, Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes)!

Are you surprised that TWD was one of the most tweeted about shows? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
