Final rose — denied!

The Walking Dead was featured on Jeopardy! last Thursday, June 12, and it got a showcase spot as the Final Jeopardy answer. Here's the clue: "George Romero declined to direct a few episodes of this series, calling it ‘basically... just a soap opera.’"

From here, the answer couldn't be easier: “What is The Walking Dead?” All you need is a basic familiarity with the name George Romero and his connection to zombies. Two of the three finalists were all over it, and got it right. However, one guy apparently got stuck on the "soap opera" idea and guessed … "The Bachelor."

Sigh. Shame. Deep shame.

Head to UndeadWalking to see his hands out in classic "I have no idea!" pose, as he bet $9,000 on the wrong show. Oh well.

It's great to see TWD on Jeopardy!, but it's kind of sad that they had to pick a quote dissing the show. If you don't recall, here's what Romero told The Big Issue about TWD: "They asked me to do a couple of episodes of The Walking Dead but I didn’t want to be a part of it. Basically it’s just a soap opera with a zombie occasionally. I always used the zombie as a character for satire or a political criticism and I find that missing in what’s happening now.”

He's probably a big fan of BBC's In the Flesh. Just saying. But there's room on TV for more than one kind of zombie show, and we love TWD exactly as it is. Romero and Wrong Answer Man just need to sit down and watch the next full series marathon together. They’ll get hooked in no time!

The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October on AMC.
