We still have about four months to go before Season 5 of The Walking Dead formally kicks off sometime in October, but the AMC gods will be shining down on us this Fourth of July weekend, as it was just announced that a Talking Dead Season 5 premiere special is set to air as we celebrate America’s independence.

This joyous news comes to us courtesy of Chris Hardwick’s Nerdist.com, which confirms the “Dead, White, and Blue Weekend” marathon along with a brand-new installment of Talking Dead which will provide us with our first look at the upcoming fifth season. We’re understandably thrilled about that, but let’s get the marathon specifics out of the way first.

As they have in year’s past, AMC will be airing a complete TWD series marathon over July 4 weekend. Said marathon will kick off July 4th at 9:00 a.m. ET with the pilot episode, and it will culminate in a “brand-new special episode of The Talking Dead, hosted by our own Chris Hardwick, that offers a first look at the show’s hotly anticipated fifth season.”

The Talking Dead Season 5 Preview Special, as it is being called, is scheduled to air on July 6 at 6 at 9 p.m. ET. Showrunner and executive producer Scott M. Gimple and actress Aisha Tyler will be the evening’s special guests, and a “clue” to Team Prison’s Terminus fate has already been promised. Honestly, this enough for us to ditch our families and fireworks, but AMC isn’t done with the surprises just yet.

Nerdist.com also reports that on July 8 at 10 p.m. ET, AMC will air the first of two TWD documentaries. The first doc is called Inside The Walking Dead, and it will detail how the hit drama is made. “The executive producers will discuss the process of mapping out the show, and viewers will hear from all of the key production departments — from production design and special effects to costumes and makeup — about their role in crafting the world of The Walking Dead,” the site notes.

Doc No. 2, Inside The Walking Dead: Walker University, will air after the conclusion of the holiday weekend — on July 15 at 10 p.m. ET, to be exact — but that hardly means we’re any less psyched to see it, especially since it chronicles the journey from extra to walker. According to Nerdist.com, “Viewers will learn that there is much more to becoming part of the living dead than just makeup and will get an inside perspective on the choreography, acting, and motivation behind each zombie, including a look at what takes place at The Walking Dead’s own Zombie School.

Are you excited for all of TWD goodies coming our way over the July 4th weekend? Tell us your thoughts below!
