*Potential Walking Dead Season 5 spoilers ahead!*
AMC shared two The Walking Dead Season 5 videos on July 1, one interviewing the cast and crew about the Season 5 premiere and early scripts, and this second one — called "Props, Kills and Explosions" — with the actors and production team talking about how the show is put together (in the intense Georgia heat) and naming their favorite past walker kills.
Watch the video below.
It’s all genuinely fascinating, but we couldn't help but look at what was going on behind them as they talked. Toward the start of the video, as Assistant Props Master Adam Miller is talking, you can see what looks like a white church in the background. Later, we see Steven Yeun (Glenn Rhee) standing in front of the same church. (There's a scene of Daryl/Norman killing a walker in a church, but that's from Season 2.) We also see Andrew J. West (Gareth) by the white church place. He may even be inside the church, with pews in the background? It’s hard to be sure.
You can also see co-executive producer Denise Huth standing by a couple of buses, and it looks like they might have church wording on the side, like the church bus of recent filming spoilers.
In The Walking Dead comics, right around this time period, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and company meet Father Gabriel Stokes, and they stay at his church for a short period of time. That's during The Hunters storyline following a group of cannibals, and a running theory is that Terminus's residents are taking on that cannibal story.
We also learn that Jeffrey F. January will be directing Season 5, Episode 3, since he's seen being asked about his favorite walker kill and explosion.
So this particular video (or at least that part of it) was probably shot while they were filming Episode 3. Maybe that's when we get to Gabriel's church, if they adapt that for TV? It implies that our group gets out of Terminus very quickly, but why is Gareth also there? If they get out, why don’t they kill him along the way? He’s not joining Team Post Prison ... is he? Maybe he stalks the survivors to the church and uses one of their own as bait, ala The Hunters/cannibals in the comics. He does seem increasingly like the TV version of Chris, so that would fit.
Toward the very end of the video, you can also see walkers shuffling past train cars, so that’s probably some early footage from Season 5, and maybe a hint on how they get out of Terminus. They did say we’d see more walkers this season and the way Rick and company get out of Terminus is meant to involve creativity and ingenuity, so maybe it also involves a herd attack?
What did you notice in the background of this video?
The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October on AMC.
