There are so many reunions we’re looking forward to in The Walking Dead Season 5 — from Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) seeing his baby daughter again, to Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) seeing Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) for the first time since she was “banished” in Season 4, Episode 4.

Norman Reedus just had an interview with Mashable, and they noted how many fans are hoping for a Daryl/Carol reunion in Season 5; some fans even hope Carol is part of the Terminus rescue. (Based on the brief sneak peek clip with Carol, Tyreese, Judith and walkers in the woods … maybe?) “Does Daryl miss Carol,” Mashable asked, “or where is his thought process amid all the separation and chaos?”

Here’s Norman’s answer:

“Carol’s probably the most like Daryl in a lot of different ways. They both come from abuse and they’re both fighting for their own identity. And one of the good things about this show is that you see these characters realizing they have the opportunity to be who they want to be. They’re shedding their past and taking off all those layers of the onion and realizing they’re stronger than people have made them out to be and time is fleeting and everyone is infected. This is your chance to fight for what you’re going to fight for. Both characters are very similar, and Daryl has a big love for Carol and vice-versa. Those two always have each other’s back. Whether she comes to the rescue or someone else comes to the rescue all of those characters are each coming to their own rescue and the rescue of other people all of the time, so it’s a very thin line that people are walking whether they’re going to hero up or coward out."

Nice. That’s kind of a perfect answer, in that it sounds good and gives us a philosophical, character-based sense of things without sharing anything too spoilery on what happens, whether there’s any kind of reunion, if Carol is involved with the Terminus rescue, or what. Of course, these are the things we're dying to know, but if someone actually tells us they'll probably get in trouble.

But it’s good to hear that the characters have love for each other, and will always have each other's backs, however you feel like interpreting that. (And relax — there are many kinds of love in the world, and all of them are good. Norman has also said Daryl will always have Rick's back. Daryl wins the Most Loyal award! And Norman also recently said that Daryl isn't ready to hook up with anyone, so no need for a shipping war.)

Norman has mentioned how Melissa McBride “gets” him and he feels free to be vulnerable in front of her because of that. Norman also recently noted that an episode in Season 5 willfocus on Daryl and one other character, and here are some reasons why it could be Carol.

Do you agree with Norman that Carol and Daryl are very similar? Are you looking forward to seeing them reunite in Season 5?

The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October on AMC.
