After four unbearable months without a glimpse of any new footage from The Walking Dead, the 2014 San Diego Comic Con delivered in a big way today, July 25, during the AMC hit’s star-studded panel. We’ll have more on that action-packed Season 5 teaser trailer in a bit, but for now let’s answer what is perhaps the most important question of all: When does TWD Season 5 premiere?

After some intense speculation, we’re happy to confirm that the post-apocalyptic show’s highly-anticipated fifth season will kick off on October 12 at 9 p.m. ET. We had long suspected that AMC would pick that date for the Season 5 opener since they have a long history of selecting the second Sunday in October, but something about finally getting the date confirmed has us feeling especially psyched.

Adding to our excitement is all that we already know about the Season 5 premiere. For starters, the first photo (which was released back in May) shows Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) opening the door of the Terminus train car, and we’re already praying for those poor Termites. Let’s also not forget that the Season 5 premiere is already being billed as “by far the biggest episode” ever with “a ton” of Terminus answers coming our way. Is it October 12 yet, because we can barely contain our excitement!
