Hey, remember The Walking Dead spin-off — aka "companion series" — meant to be coming to AMC in 2015? We kinda hoped for major details to be shared during TWD’s San Diego Comic-Con panels, but … no such luck.

Comic book writer/executive producer Robert Kirkman was asked about it, of course, and he did give some vague teases. The Walking Dead's comic book panel was held Thursday at Comic-Con, the day before the TV show’s panel, and IGN added this to the end of its report: "Finally, Kirkman did offer one TV-related tidbit. He confirmed that while the spinoff to the TV series won't be officially announced at SDCC this week, an announcement will be coming soon." CinemaBlend added another spin-off quote from Robert, from after TWD’s Friday panel in Hall H.

"I’m doing something with it almost every day," RK said. "It’s taking a while, but it’s not taking longer than anticipated.” He repeated that he hoped they’d have some news very soon.

Back in March, it was revealed that Sons of Anarchy's Dave Erickson was hired to co-write and executive produce the spin-off with Robert, with fellow TWD honchos Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert also executive producing.

RK previously noted that the spin-off isn’t really a spin-off at all, because they aren’t spinning off any characters from the main TWD show. “I can say that it will be another group of characters, surviving in another part of the world,” he said, at the time. “And it’s not going to use any of the core cast from our show. The show will continue uninterrupted, as if the other show doesn’t exist. But the other show will kind of be its own entity.” So it won’t take place in Georgia, like TWD, but everything else still seems to be up for grabs.

Season 5 just had its premiere date confirmed (Sunday, October 12, 2014) at Comic-Con, so we’re not too shocked that AMC didn’t announce a 2015 premiere date for the spin-off. Still, we wouldn’t say no to details like an official title, some kind of story focus, the location (for filming and where it takes place on screen), and when casting and production start.

Any time now is great, thanks!
