Guess what? The Walking Dead Season 5 is now shooting its mid-season finale, which means we’re on high alert for mayhem. The Spoiling Dead Fans has been following production, and filming was apparently taking place yesterday at a textile building in Griffin, GA.

Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes), Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon), Chad Coleman (Tyreese), and Sonequa Martin-Green’s (Sasha) vehicle were all seen on location, but there was specific mention of a scene involving one of the new characters, Father Gabriel Stokes (Seth Gilliam). Before sharing what happened to him, they mentioned how 25-30 walkers just went into the building. Then they wrote this: "Seth aka Father Gabriel is filming at the textile building. He's running across the back, limping and being chased by walkers and falls down."

That doesn’t sound good! But we don’t know what happens next. Maybe he’s saved by someone, or himself. We’ve yet to see the character in action at all, so it’s hard to know what to expect.

When Seth was announced as a new series regular for Season 5, his character was described as "having two sides, displaying a friendly, puckish humor but also having a haunted side stemming from a dark secret." It was later added that the character "brings a lot of conflict and really cool character traits to the mix" and he's "very integral to the future of The Walking Dead."

At Comic-Con it was confirmed that Seth was playing Gabriel, a preacher featured in The Walking Dead comic books whom Rick Grimes and company meet on the road to Washington, D.C.

*Comic book spoilers ahead*

Seth/Gabriel appeared very briefly in the Season 5 trailer, collapsed in tears. He does have some dark secrets in the comic book storyline — having locked his church’s doors to his friends and congregation when the outbreak started, to protect himself — but the TV show often changes details. TSDF previously shared that TV’s Gabriel knows the truth about Terminus, whatever that might be (we’ll get that confirmation in the premiere).

It looks like the story will soon head to the Alexandria Safe-Zone and — in the comics — Gabriel makes it there alive. He’s still with the living in the story to date, but that’s not really anything you can hang your hat on when it comes to the TV show. He could go at any time. Heck, maybe he’ll be the new Dale.

Do you think Gabriel might not make it past the mid-season finale, or is this just a hint of danger but he’ll survive?

The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres Sunday, October 12 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
