Let’s be honest: It’s less important how many characters die in The Walking Dead Season 5 than which characters. No one’s going to riot for the poor redshirts. (David, we almost miss you. We just never met you enough to care.)

The core cast is currently bigger than ever, and we’re not expecting all of them to make it to the Season 5 finale. Several actors talked to Entertainment Weekly Radio at Comic-Con, mentioning how they had shot seven episodes of the season at that point. They actually don’t know what’s going to happen in the end, they just hope they don’t end up getting a death call from showrunner Scott Gimple.

"He's not the Grim Reaper,” Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) said. “He's a very cuddly Grim Reaper. But it kind of gets to that point in the season where you know it is an inevitable part of this show. It's one of the great things, I think, that you have real jeopardy for favorite characters. So, yeah, it won't be without its share of death, this season."

Will the “favorite characters” just be in jeopardy, or be part of the share of death? “Favorite” is arguable, but we’ve seen plenty of characters in jeopardy before. One of the S5 preview images showed Daryl Dixon tied up at Terminus, and the trailer showed Glenn Rhee looking like he was poised for a head slice. Both characters have been in peril many times in the past — remember both of them in Woodbury — and we hope they, and the other Atlanta OGs, make it out fine.

Do you have any death predictions, for favorite characters or others?

The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres Sunday, October 12 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
